Out of the Green
Harakeke or New Zealand native flax are a subject Christie never tires of working with. The deep shadows between the broad blades of the leaves, and the mysterious twists and turns they take as they grow toward the light. Here, the coloured leaves emerge from a deep dark forest green background, taking your eyes on a journey around the work with the twists and collapsed leaves. Christie enjoys using bold translucent colours in light washes and glazes to create these positive and joyful intuitive impressionist works.
