For Alistair McDonald, our young New Zealand landscape is very much alive. His aim is to create “a parallel reality of equal intensity” (Giacometti) - what he sees is a starting point for intensifying colour and adjusting shapes, as nature itself does. Expressionism, always from an understanding of how and why the land evolved as it did. A purchaser once commented that his landscapes appear to be breathing - perfect!
Alistair is a full-time artist from Bottle Creek, Porirua. His practise includes painting (oils, acrylics, inks); sculpture (various media); illustration; and stained glass
